For over 35 years, we've lived and breathed hair. What started as a shared passion has become a lifelong dedication to making every client feel truly special. As husband and wife, we bring a unique dynamic to The Color — Mel's extraordinary eye for colour and Richard's precision styling combine to deliver results that keep our clients coming back, year after year.

Our Journey
1969
The Founders Arrive
The story begins with the births of the future duo behind the brand. Richard arrives in January, followed by Mel in July.
1987
Learning the Craft
Gaining vital hands-on experience, Mel joins the team at UpperCuts Bridlington as a Junior, mastering the fundamentals of salon life.
1990
A Passion Ignited
Mel discovers her calling and takes her first steps into the industry, enrolling in hairdressing college to begin her formal training.
1990
Welcome, Aaron
Mel and Richard start their family, welcoming their son Aaron into the world.
1993
Tying the Knot
A year of celebration as Mel and Richard officially marry, solidifying their personal partnership two years before cementing their professional one.
1995
A Dynamic Duo
Richard formally joins the hairdressing industry, teaming up with Mel to turn a shared vision into a family business.

The First Salon
The couple opens the doors to their very first business, Le Salon De Coiffure, laying the foundation for everything to come.
1997
The Paul Mitchell Partnership
A defining moment for the business: the salon introduces Paul Mitchell products, beginning a relationship that would shape their future identity.
2006
The Color is Born
A major evolution takes place. The salon opens as The Color and achieves the prestigious status of a Paul Mitchell Signature Salon.

Completing the Family
The family circle grows once more with the arrival of their daughter, Angel.
